Welcome to Fatherhood! Man who Inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge is Now a Dad

Pete Frates was the face behind the viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge but now he is facing a new test but it does not have anything to do with the disease. Frates is now a father of a baby girl and will soon be embarking on the journey of parenthood.

The 29-year-old who inspired the world to donate in the ALS fundraising event is now a father to a 7-pound baby girl. He and his wife, Julie, named their baby Lucy who was delivered on the morning of Sunday.

Pete and his wife announced the great news on their Facebook page.

Pete had a very touching story which he shared to the public. He was once an athlete from Massachusetts but was diagnosed with the disease in 2012. Pete then devoted his time in raising awareness with regard to the disease.

He first challenged a few of his friend earlier this year. That was when the campaign reportedly kicked off. Thousands of people took on the challenge including A-listers from Hollywood in order to raise both awareness and money to fund the organization in finding a cure for the disease.

Pete has lost his control over his mobility in his arms and legs due to the said disease. He wrote a column for Bleacher Report earlier this year from which he mentioned that he and his wife are expecting a baby.

He wrote that the excitement of having a baby keeps his engines going at full strength. He noted that just by the thought of seeing the face of their first child is something he cherishes beyond words.

He added that he may not be able to say "I love you" using his own voice, he will still let his love be felt by his daughter. He ended by saying he does not know how many years of his life are still left but he will fight harder each day to be there as husband and a father.

The association has announced last week that through the Ice Bucket Challenges over the course of a month, they have received more than US$100 million in donation.
