Captain America: Civil War Poised to Surpass $75 million Opening Day Gross

Disney and Marvel's latest superhero film, Captain America: Civil War, already grossed over $291.2 million abroad and is slated to earn passed the $75 million mark or even hit $80 million estimates reveal.  

Civil War's opening day estimate was pegged a little less than May's Avengers: Age of Ultron, which earned $84.4 million Friday to a total of $191.3 million during its first week of showing in the domestic market.

Industry insiders forecast that the movie may place third in the top earners among the May openings, following Marvel's Avengers, which took $207.4 million in 2012 and Avengers: Age of Ultron, grossing $191.3 million. The movie is pegged to outgross 2013's Iron Man 3, which collected $174.1 million.

Civil War forces on the conflict among the Avengers as they choose who to side between Captain America/Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) and Iron Man/Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.). The stellar ensemble, including Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner, as well as the debuts of new characters, Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is expected to boost the film's revenue.

The previous Captain America film, Winter Soldier, took in $10.2 million on Thursday night and earned over $714 million internationally.

Civil War is seen to land a spot in the the all-time box-office list of domestic openings, joining the ranks of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million), Jurassic World ($208.8 million), The Avengers ($207.4 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million) and Iron Man 3 ($174 million).
