Swimming Ace Michael Phelps has announced the arrival of his first child with a cute Instagram post on Thursday. Phelps' fiancée Nicole Johnson delivered the baby in Arizona. The child has been named Boomer Robert Phelps. The middle name is in honor of Phelps' longtime coach, Bob Bowman.

Phelps is currently in Arizona, training at a high altitude for upcoming Rio Olympics. 

"Welcome Boomer Robert Phelps into the world!!! Born 5-5-2016 at 7:21 pm !!! Healthy and happy!!! Best feeling I have ever felt in my life!!!'  Phelps wrote.

The Olympic champion was scheduled to swim in Atlanta next week as a final preparation before heading for US Olympic trials. However, following the birth of the child, he has withdrawn himself from the Atlanta competition.

Phelps and Johnson had apparently chosen a name for their child before the baby's arrival.

Speaking at a press conference in Mesa, Arizona last month, the swimmer had said, "It's something we both agreed on, thought it was different." He said that he "probably will be [a] very protective" parent. Phelps stated that his fiancée has been "nothing but one of the best supporters I could ask for."

Phelps now has very limited opportunities to compete ahead of his Olympic trials. He may participate in the USA Project Swim Series in Charlotte next weekend. The 22-time Olympic medalist has 18 Olympic gold medal wins to his credit.
