Franchise producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed during an interview that an upcoming X-Men film will feature events set in the 90s.

Furthermore, fans have highlighted a pattern with regards to the previous films set dates. The 2011 movie titled 'X-Men: First Class' was set in the 60s, followed by 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' which showed scenes in 1970s. The upcoming 'X-Men: Apocalypse' is therefore expected to be set in the 1980s.

The 1990s is when the comics enjoyed remarkable commercial success after Jim Lee revised the characters' looks. These fictional personas were the foundation for the animated series that eventually become the audience's favorite.

Kinberg's statement remains uncertain and fans are speculating whether he was referring to a new headline film for the franchise or director Josh Boone's on-going 'New Mutants' project.

The upcoming 'New Mutants' film will show a new batch of teenagers who possess super powers. It will include characters like Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Magik, Dani Moonstar, Warlock, and Sunspot. Also, the new Storm, played by Alexandra Shipp, will make her debut in May, and James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier will have a big role in the film.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' will be released in theaters on May 27.
