It is safe to say that most young adults, who were born in the 90s and were given PlayStation 1 as children, played Naughty Dog's extremely popular game - "Crash Bandicoot." The game franchise, which first debuted in 1998, has since released a total of eighteen games. With over 50 million units spanning 18 games sold, there is no denying the commercial success of "Crash Bandicoot."

However, it has been almost six years since the last "Crash Bandicoot" game was released. Fans have been expecting an updated PS4 version of the cult title; however, unfortunately for the game's avid and relentless followers, "Crash Bandicoot" on the PlayStation 4 remains highly unlikely - at least as of the moment.

Naughty Dog sneakily included choice "Crash Bandicoot" easter eggs in the recently released "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." According to Stevivor, the cameos sent the rumor mill into a frenzy of speculations and predictions as to when the new "Crash Bandicoot" would be released.

Unfortunately, Sony Entertainment, the company that initially published the game, was quick to dispel rumors. The company has since explained how they currently do not own the rights to the game. Activision, which acquired the title in 2008, still currently owns the rights to "Crash Bandicoot."

A few days ago, a Playstation fan reached out to Adam Boyes, a Sony executive, on Twitter asking about the classic game. Needless to say, Boyes confirmed that Activision indeed has the rights to the popular game.

"@tulupowdan yes, as I've said before Activision owns the rights to Crash Bandicoot" read Boyes' tweet.

Considering Boyes' statement regarding the franchise, it is safe to say that "Crash Bandicoot" for PS4 would not be coming out anytime soon. However, as Game Pur argues - the reboot is still very much possible.

Sony Entertainment and Activision have recently agreed to work together in order to develop new instalments for the "Call of Duty" franchise, and given their closer relationship, it is not completely off base to assume that the pair would resurrect the incredibly popular game.

As of this writing, neither Activision nor Sony Entertainment has confirmed that a "Crash Bandicoot" reboot is currently in the works.
