The 2014 midterm elections for the senatorial race in Kansas is proving to be a complicated fight with two major party representatives in the running, along with two independent candidates.

Republican Senator Pat Roberts is up against Democratic challenger Chad Taylor and independent candidates Randall Baston and Greg Orman.

Randall Baston is a libertarian while Greg Orman is a well financed businessman who was also a former Democrat.

Robert's campaign manager, Leroy Towns, said the senator joked that he's one of the few who have to battle two Democrats.

Roberts, who was once a favorite, is now behind Orman during a recent poll conducted by the Democratic firm Public Policy.

However, in a survey against Taylor, Roberts is in the lead.

Political scientist Burdett Loomis of the University of Kansas said, Taylor has slim chances of being in the lead or be able to raise enough money to fund for the campaign.

Political analysts said the Kansas race is becoming a challenge for democrats in the state.

The election begs the question of whether to support Orman, or urge Taylor to step down from the race.

Kansas Democrats have yet to give their decision and Taylor's campaign managers said they have not yet received any requests to end his campaign.

Meanwhile, Republicans are getting worried about Roberts' continuous dip in the polls, saying that his 27 percent approval rating is low for an incumbent.

Robert's campaign has been faced with challenges, despite his earlier victory during the primary elections.

In February, the New York Times reported that Roberts has been paying the rent of several supporters for them to stay in the state.

The news caused Robert's ratings to suddenly plunge.
