Video game developer DICE has unveiled its newest title, 'Battlefield 1.' The game will be released as part of the 'Battlefield' video games series, and this time DICE is tripping down history by setting the game during World War I.

There had been speculations that 'Battlefield 1' will take gamers to several key locations accross the world. All of these locations apparently have a direct impact on the outcome of the First World War. As of this writing, among the confirmed locations are the Italian Alps, Arabia, and the Western Front.

Not much has been revealed about the game's single player component. However, 'Battlefield 1' lead designer Danny Berlin hinted that the game will "more accurately reflect Battlefield's open sandboxes." There are also rumors that the game's storyline will be presented in more than one point of view. This has led some game analysts to predict that there will be more than one main character and also a possibility of a branching storyline.

This new hints about the single-player component of 'Battlefield 1' would come as good news for the fans of the series considering that the previous titles only offered corridor-based level design and campaigns.

'Battlefield 1' is expected to have a multiplayer component. Rumors have it that it will support up to 64 players in a war that will span land, air, and sea. Just like the single-player component, not much is known with the game's multiplayer gameplay mechanics. However, there are indications pointing to the possible inclusion of classic game modes, as well as the introduction of newer gameplay styles.

According to PC Gamer, 'Battlefield 1' will support microtransactions as well as map packs.

A beta version 'Battlefield 1' is scheduled for release later this year. Interested gamers can get early access to the beta version by simply registering as a Battlefield Insider.

'Battlefield 1' is expected to hit the shelves on Oct. 21 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. EA and Origin Access members, as well as those who purchased the deluxe edition of the game, can get in on Oct. 18.
