Badminton News: China Remains Unbeaten in Thomas & Uber Cup Finals, Men’s Squad Sweeps Defending Champion Japan

The Chinese men's and women's teams prevailed over their respective opponents to sail into the quarterfinal round of the premiere badminton team championships Total BWF Thomas Cup Finals 2016 on Wednesday at the Kunshan Sports Center in Jiangsu, China.

China's men's squad remains undefeated in Group A. They swept Mexico and France in the preliminary stage of the competition and added Japan  to their list of highly dominating victories. According to Xinhua, Team China took more than five hours to defeat the defending champion with a 5-0 whitewash in the last match of the group stage in Thomas Cup.

Current world No. 1 Chen Long got the better of Japanese veteran Sho Sasaki, who presently ranks as the world No. 27, with 22-20, 21-17, 21-12.

It was an arduous match for the two-time world champion, who dropped the first game. Chen bounced back in the next two sets and claimed the first victory to give China a 1-0 lead in the tie that lasted 85 minutes.

"I was leading in the first half of the opening set, but I was a little nervous," the 2012 Summer Olympics men's singles bronze medalist Chen said about the first set.

Men's doubles pair Zhang Nan and Fu Haifeng also spent three sets to get past Japanese tandem of Kenichi Hayakawa and Hiroyuki Endo 21-19, 27-25, 21-19

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan had an easier time dispatching Takuma Ueda. The world No. 3 dominated the match with a 21-8, 21-18 victory to secure the win for the host country.

Team Japan fought hard in the following two matches, but the Chinese badminton players gave no chance for the shuttlers from the "Land of the rising sun," wrapping up the group match with another perfect 5-0 victory.

In the Uber Cup, China maintained its perfect record as the team demolished Denmark 5-0 without losing a single set.
