A teacher at Mace's Lane Middle School in Maryland was arrested for writing a fictional novel about a school massacre, and is currently being held against his will in a mental health facility at an undisclosed location.

The 23-year-old eighth-grade Language Arts teacher and aspiring writer, Patrick McLaw, was put on leave by the School District of Dorchester County after being detained and forced to comply in an "emergency medical evaluation."

The fictional novel, titled "The Insurrectionist" and written under the pseudonym Dr. K.S. Voltaer, is based nine hundred years in the future in the year 2902.

The novel's plot is about the largest school massacre in history, where a reported 947 individuals are killed. The federal government then gets involved as the world begins questioning exactly how and why the massacre happened.

Not only has McLaw been suspended until further notice, authorities reportedly conducted a K-9 sweep at the middle school, as well as McLaw's home, in an effort to find explosive devices or any other potentially lethal weapons.  However, nothing was found that fit their criteria.

What seems to leave many baffled is the fact that authorities aren't releasing any information that justifies the actions of these measures taken, other than the basis of McLaw's fictional novel. Some are questioning whether or not writing about a controversial fictional topic is enough to warrant being detained, searched, and forced to undergo a medical evaluation.

According to reports, McLaw was one of the nominees for Dorchester County's First Class Teacher of the Year award for the 2013-2014 school year.

The lack of substantial evidence poses the possibility of McLaw launching a lawsuit for a violation of his constitutional rights as a citizen, although authorities appear more concerned with making sure local children are safe from fiction.
