Disney and Deadmau5 in Legal Fight Over Mouse Head Symbol

Mickey Mouse's iconic head is now being disputed between Disney and DJ Deadmau5.

The Canadian DJ recently tweeted: "Lawyer up, Mickey," which showed Disney was taking an interest and is going to court against the DJ.

The DJ has been wearing a Mickey Mouse-like headgear whenever he is out performing on stage and Disney is not pleased about it.

Disney already filed the case but it is not yet clear whether the case will end up in court.

Aside from DJ Deadmau5/Joel Zimmerman's tweet, he also released a statement about the case against him, saying that Disney thinks people might confuse an established electronic musician with a cartoon character. He noted that's how "stupid" Disney thinks people are.

The DJ's logo has been recognized internationally for ten years now. Zimmerman said that he wanted his trademark to be known all throughout, listing Germany, U.K, France, Ireland and Japan as targets.

The mau5 head was registered in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in June 2013.

A year after, Disney submitted a 171-page opposition. The DJ's fans are asking why Disney waited such a long time before filing a case. The DJ's lawyer said that they are prepared to fight Disney to protect his rights to the trademark.

Disney complained that if the trademark were to be assigned to Zimmerman, it would damage their business as well as mislead their customers. They added that the three-circle logo had been Disney's from 1928 and that they were the ones who made it famous, iconic, and classic.

Zimmerman's fans - and haters as well - took to Twitter. Their comments ranged from suggesting that he should just get another alias or another trademark to which he responded using explicit words. He tweeted: "Sorry, I'm no little b*** who's going to fold under a money hungry corporation over some bulls***. You do your thing tho. k?"
