Kate Beckinsale Claimed Michael Bay Discriminated Her During ‘Pearl Harbor’

'Love & Friendship' Premiere - Arrivals - 2016 Sundance Film Festival

Kate Beckinsale made her grand debut in "Pearl Harbor," but director Michael Bay was critical of her looks and weight, the actress said. While the British actress did not describe the "Transformers" director as a sexist, she implied as much during her recent appearance on "The Graham Norton Show."

Michael Bay's Unfair Treatment of Kate Beckinsale

Beckinsale recalled her time working with the Bay in 2001 during an appearance on "The Graham Norton Show."

"I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren't bigger than my head," the British actress said of the blockbuster director.

Beckinsale also accused the director of caring less how she performed compared to the performance of her male co-stars, Ben Affleck, and Josh Hartnett. Bay would constantly praise Affleck and Hartnett on their performances, she said. When asked about how she did, the director would comment on her appearance being not so attractive. She added that Bay said that everywhere they went while promoting the film.

This is not the first time the director is being accused of not treating actresses fairly. He is said to be the reason why Megan Fox's left the cast of the third "Transformers" movie.

History of Michael Bay's Body Shaming

Vanity Fair unearthed evidence of how Michael Bay treated Kate Beckinsale during "Pearl Harbor." The director is quoted saying he does not want an actress that is too beautiful noting that women feel disturbed seeing someone too pretty. In fact, he said almost the same thing to Kate Winslet before.

He gave an example of Winslet in Titanic, saying that she was not overwhelmingly beautiful and that made the reception of the movie better for women. Industry sources say that Bay indeed has issues with women in the industry.
