Malaysia's badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei is on a mission to be the highest ranked in the world. His quest for the number one spot begins at the Istola Galera Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta for the BCA Indonesia Open 2016.

"I want to maintain my consistency. I will try to fight to get the No. 1 ranking back before I go to the Olympics (in Rio de Janeiro in August). If I can't, I want to at least maintain my No. 2 ranking. I want a good seeding at the Olympic draw," Chong Wei, a five-time badminton World champion, said.

Chong Wei is currently ranked as the second-highest men singles badminton player in the world. China's Chen Long is the world No.1. The 27-year-old has an impressive 314-70 win-loss record and has garnered a total of 92,194 points in 16 tournaments.

Meanwhile 33-year-old Chong Wei has amassed a total of 88,953 points in 16 events. The two-time Olympic silver medalist has compiled a remarkable win-loss record of 631 victories and 118 defeats.

Chong Wei's goal of becoming the world No. 1 was boosted on Tuesady after by Chen Long's withdrew from the tournament. The reigning world No. 1 conceded a walkover to Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in the first round of the men's singles event. If Chong Wei goes on to win the title, there is a possibility that he could overtake the Chinese at the top of the rankings.

With the top-seeded player out of contention, Chong Wei's biggest threat will be the incumbent world No. 3 Lin Dan of China. Lin, the five-time world champion prevented Chong Wei's bid for an Olympic gold medal in the finals of the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics.
