The report also cited Apple's initial partners are CVS and Walgreens.

The report didn't include the details of the deal, however. It claims both drug store chains will accept a new iPhone payment system at their 15,000 combined locations.

Apple's plan to partner with the drug store chains will be beneficial to its mobile payments system since it will wide consumer adoption of the system for its launching.

Both Walgreens and Apple didn't comment on the report, but CVS said that they've no knowledge of the rumored partnership.

"We don't know what Apple may be planning in terms of a payment system so it is not possible for us to say whether it is something our stores may be able to accept," said CVS in a statement.

Various reports said Apple's iWallet will use near field communication (NFC) and other wireless protocols to facilitate touchless purchases at compatible point-of-sale terminals.

The iPhone 6, which is expected to unveil next week, is the first mobile device to have NFC to pay for goods.

In related news, Apple is also reportedly to be in talks with fashion retailer Nordstrom to have a physical store adapt the NFC system.

There have also been reports Apple is talking with credit card companies Visa, American Express, and MasterCard about its mobile payment system.
