China, the world's most populous nation and the second largest global economy, currently holds the 91st place in Internet broadband speed in the world, with an average score of 9.46 Mbps. The country currently has around 700 million Internet users in which 39.51 million of them were new Internet users in 2015.

To compare the figure, the five top countries with the fastest Internet broadband speed in the world include South Korea at 26.7 Mbps, Sweden at 19.1 Mbps, Norway at 18.8 Mbps, Japan at 17.4 Mbps and the Netherlands at 17 Mbps, according to a report by China Daily.

This year, 90.1 percent of the total Chinese netizens have accessed the Internet using their mobile devices as compared to last year's 85.8 percent. The country's code top-level domain - ".cn" - also has the world's largest number of users at around 16.36 million. The report also reveals that around 110 million people in China have received education online, and 152 million have used online medical services.

All of the above figures were said to have been extracted from data issued by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) together with Akamai Technologies, the Broadband Development Alliance and from the People.com.cn website.

Furthermore, it was recently revealed that the city of Hong Kong has managed to hold the top position of the most connected population in the world for two years. The recent GfK Connected Consumer Index shows that Hong Kong managed to surpass the United States, Canada and Mexico combined. The Index covered a wide range of devices - in terms of connectivity - including personal computers, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, connected vehicles and smart home appliances, among others.
