Mixed martial artist Ronaldo Souza proved himself to be deserving on a title contention after beating Gegard Mousasi on their rematch at UFC Fight Night 50 held in Ledyard, Connecticut.

Back in 2008, Souza was defeated by Mousasi through a devastating upkick. Souza bounced back on Friday when he submitted Mousasi using a guillotine choke with 30 seconds left on round 3. Without a doubt, Souza got his revenge after the loss by ending the bout in a dominant fashion.

With his amazing performance, Souza appears to be the expected opponent of the winner of the Chris Weidman-Vitor Belfort title match on December 6.

Mousasi is considered as one of the best strikers in the league. However, Souza stole the night with his much consistent blows as he aims to back Mousasi against the cage and take the game to the ground afterwards.

Souza kept looking for the tap as Mousasi defended himself from submission hold attempts for the first few rounds. Mousasi was able to protect himself from numerous Kimura attempts but Souza kept on striking to position Mousasi for the winning hold.

The match exploited Mousasi's need to improve his take down defense based on the result of the fight.

Now running on a 7-fight winning streak, the 34-year-old hopes that all the doubts were erased by the outcome of the fight.

With Souza now aiming to be the next champion, the big question is, are the fight fans expecting a deciding 3rd bout? With both tied with 1 win apiece, ending the rivalry through a trilogy is definitely the answer.

Before Souza-Musashi collision, Joe Lauzon and Michael Chiesa built the momentum through amazing exchanges of blows leading to the doctors stopping the fight in the 2nd round.
