Barcelona's veteran defender Dani Alves advised his Brazil teammate Philippe Coutinho to consider joining the Catalonia giants next season despite rumors that he himself will exit the club this summer.

SkySports reported that the 23-year-old Coutinho was "urged to consider leaving Liverpool this summer" and to join the back-to-back La Liga and Copa del Rey champions as his 33-year-old Seleção teammate said that he has the "ability to thrive at the Nou Camp, alongside close friend Neymar and former Liverpool teammate Luis Suárez" because of his skill set.

Coutinho had been one of the Reds' best players since he was acquired in January of 2013 for a transfer fee of £8.5 million from Italian Serie A squad Inter Milan. In three-and-a-half seasons at the Merseyside, the Brazilian winger had compiled 28 goals in a total of 145 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.

He finished his most productive season yet this term under new coach Jürgen Klopp, scoring 12 times in 43 games overall.

"Football is about living the moment," said Alves, as per Caught Offside. "Liverpool have history but you should consider playing for top UCL sides. He has the quality to play for Barcelona."

It is not immediately known, though, if Barça would be interested in snagging the Brazilian from the Anfield this summer transfer window. And even if the Catalonia giants would be interested, it would still be up to Coutinho and the club whether a transfer will push through or not.

The 5-foot-8 Rio de Janeiro native is said to be "a key part" of the former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund manager's "exciting plans on Merseyside from next season onwards" and so it would be a long shot to expect that he will leave the Reds this summer for Barça.

Meanwhile, it is Alves who is actually set to exit Camp Nou in the coming transfer window as Serie A champs Juventus is said to have offered him a two-year deal that is better than what he has now in Barcelona.
