German automaker Mercedes-Benz is bringing the success of its E-Class sedan into the Wagon genre. The aptly named E-Class Wagon will sport the same high-end quality of its sedan counterparts, and of course the added cargo space.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon shares the same 115.7-inch wheelbase just like on the sedan. However, the wagon class has an extended roof and rear hatch which open up a lot of extra space. Mercedes-Benz has yet to release the exact dimensions of the E-Class Wagon's cargo space but considering the specs of the previous version, it should be more than 57.4 cubic feet.

Just like its predecessor, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon rear seats have a split-fold function with a new twist, the new design now allows users to position the rear seats at an angle about 10-degree steeper. This opens up additional space especially when a fifth seat is needed.

The new E-Class Wagon can also be configured to be a seven-seater car compliments to the two rear-facing seats that can be folded out to the seatbacks when not in use. However, these optional seats are only suitable for small children.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans are scheduled to hit showrooms this summer. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said to the E-Class Wagon which is expected to be released within the first quarter of 2017. Mercedes-Benz said that pricing information will be released prior to the official market launch.

Only one model will be released at launch, the E400 4Matic Wagon. It has a twin-turbocharged V6 3.0-liter engine that spews out 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet worth of torque. The four-wheel drive wagon has a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Along with the E400 4Matic Wagon, there are rumors claiming that Mercedes-Benz is in the process of testing the E63 4Matic Wagon as well. The latter is rumored to have a twin-turbocharged V8 4.0-liter engine with 600 horsepower.
