Carl Frampton outboxed title holder Kiko Martinez and won the International Boxing Federation super-bantamweight crown for himself in a Saturday-night showdown held in Belfast.

The Jackal made sure that the title would stay in his hometown by outpointing the former Spanish champion in their 12-round bout. Judges have scored the fight 119-108, 119-108, 118-111, declaring the unbeaten Frampton as the victor via unanimous decision.

Frampton controlled most of the match by taking advantage of his left, stepping away from the power hand of Martinez. The Belfast-born boxer landed clean hits in the initial rounds, prompting the Spaniard to counter with some nicely-timed efforts of his own.

The Jackal then landed a superb right hand, dropping Martinez in Round 5 and giving the 16, 000 fans a sense of déjà vu from their February encounter.

The slugfest continued in the later rounds, with Martinez occasionally pinning Frampton. However, the hometown hero made it clear in Round 12 that his victory was eminent by continuously pummeling his opponent.

Frampton first defeated Martinez in nine rounds 18 months ago, relieving him of the European title.

The new IBF super-bantamweight champion stated in a post-fight interview that this victory was a dream come true. He also paid tribute to the former champion, saying that he has never respected another fighter in his life.

"He was so dangerous. He's a hard puncher."

Frampton also revealed who he's eyeing for his next ring outing.

"The only man I want to fight is Scott Quigg,"

"I'll fight him in Manchester, I'll fight him anywhere, but we've got options." added Frampton.

The Jackal also said in BBC Radio 5 Live that he is feeling a bit emotional.

"I'm glad for everyone who has ever supported me and I intend to hold onto it for a very long time." said Frampton.

Standing at a flawless professional record of 19 wins, Frampton is the first Northern Irishman to hold a world title in 18 years.
