California Blue Whales will not be extinct, researchers said.

California Blue Whales

Researchers from University of Washington found out that California Blue Whales has increased to the point of recovery from its near extinction.

They said that this blue wales was the first to recovered from whaling since it was hunted nearly to extinction.

Blue Whales are known to be the largest animal on earth which can grow up to a 100 feet and weigh 190 tons.

Cole Monnahan one of the researchers, said that the recovery of the California blue whales from whaling demonstrates its ability to populate under careful management and conservation measures.

According to researchers, the number of blue whale that they have monitored has already reached 2,200, which 97 percent of the supposed number of whales.

Monnahan explained that this might be a low number of whales but considering the 3,400 caught in other seas and the 346,000 caught in the Antarctic this is a great increase.

Scientists believe that slowdown in population growth is returning to near historical level and not because of ship striking and killing the blue whales.

They said that they are at least 11 blue whales that were struck in the US West Coast which is above the 3.1 whales per year allowed by the US Marine Mammal Protection Act.

Trevor Branch, one of the researchers, said that the ship strikes are not going to cause overall population declines.

He explained that decline of the population growth is probably caused by the fact that they blue whales had reached their carrying capacity.

However, Monnahan explained that their findings don't mean to deprive the California Blue Whales of protection that they need to procreate more.

He said that the blue whales are recovering because they put a halt and start monitoring the growth of the blue whales.

They said that if they hadn't done this the population would be extinct which is unfortunate for the population of other blue whales.
