Twins Mike and Bob Bryan became the first doubles players to have won 100 career titles after beating Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Spain at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows on Sunday.

The Americans outlasted the Spaniards two straight sets, breaking them once in both sets 6-3 6-4 to capture their fifth tournament title and first majors for more than a year.

The 36-year-old Bryans put pressure on the Spanish tandem with their relentless serves converting 79 percent on first serves and 74 percent on second serves to win the match in an hour and 19 minutes and snatch their 16th Grand Slam title together.

"It's always sweet winning a Grand Slam," Mike said. "This just adds some extra whip cream and cherries and nuts on top."

"We were really just trying to win the title," Bob said. Then you got the 100, the ten years with slam, first slam of the year."

Indeed they have won at least one major title within the past 10 years but the very first tournament they won was the French Open in 2003.

The 11th seeded Granollers and Lopez last made the finals in the recent French Open where they lost to Frenchmen Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. They defeated the Bryan brothers in the quarter-finals.

The 2012 London Olympic Gold medalists Bryan brothers still have eyes at the 2016 Olympics in Rio and will be competing as well in the upcoming Davis Cup.

"We really want to play in the Olympics again," Bob said. "So we've set our eyes on Rio."

"We're not going to rest our laurels," Mike said. "We're going to be as fired up for the Davis Cup as this match."

But the brothers are also thinking about retiring and they might do it in style.

"We have eyed Rio as kind of the day where we want to step away."
