The upcoming third season of the DC series will tackle the storyline of Flashpoint, lead star Grant Gustin revealed via Twitter on Tuesday. The revelation is a huge spoiler for followers of The Flash.

The news comes after Gustin shared that he just finished reading the script for the premiere. Later, executive producer Greg Berlanti gave Gustin the signal to reveal the episode title.

"Just finished reading episode 3-01 titled JK NOT GONNA TELL YOU YET! I'm SO excited to get back to work in 2 weeks," the actor said.

"Flashpoint. This is not drill," Gustin later revealed.

As it turns out, The Flash will indeed deal with the Flashpoint arc following the events from season 2's finale. The last season ended with Barry making a rather rash decision of saving his mother from death. The pivotal moment made a huge impact on the series since it seems to shed light on the story of Flashpoint.

DC's Flashpoint was penned by DC Comics boss Geoff Johns and its story originated from the 2011 comic book crossover of the same name.

In this version, Barry finds himself living in an alternate timeline where he has no powers, and he stays with his living mother. The heroes in the story are more like villains. Aquaman is at war with Wonder Woman; Batman is Thomas Wayne instead of Bruce Wayne, and Captain Cold is known as Central City's biggest hero. Superman is not the Man of Steel but a captive held by the government, and Cyborg took over his role as the world's greatest hero.

The Flash dealing with Flashpoint is expected to boost the show's popularity even more. And taking into consideration the arrival of Supergirl on the CW network, this game-changing setup would make for more interesting theories about the DC shows' upcoming crossovers. It is yet to be determined if the alteration on The Flash's timeline will affect Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow in the process.

But as fans wait for the small screen adaptation to arrive, they should take note that arcs adapted from comics come from different viewpoints. As Gustin said, they plan to approach the story in their "own way."

The Flash season 3 shows on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8 PM on the CW.
