Reports were out that the New York Knicks have discussed a potential trade with the Chicago Bulls involving superstar Derrick Rose as new Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek is keen on having a significant upgrade at the point guard position.

Slam Online recently reported that the Knicks, who are said to be "desperate for a backcourt upgrade", have "discussed a potential Derrick Rose trade with the Chicago Bulls" with no official releases yet on the status of the said negotiations.

At the moment, New York has veteran floor general Jose Calderon at the starting point guard spot with Langston Galloway and incoming sophomore Jerian Grant as his backups.

The source of the news was ESPN's Ian Begley, who claimed that "the Knicks have had internal discussions recently about trading for Rose" while Chicago's willingness to let go of the former NBA MVP is still unclear at this point although speculations abound that the Bulls may trade either him or shooting guard Jimmy Butler this offseason.

The 27-year-old Rose is going into the final season of his five-year, $94.3 million deal with the Bulls which will make him an unrestricted free agent next summer, something that Chicago is allegedly dreading as the team is unsure whether he will stick with them or not.

With that, rumors that the Bulls may shop him around this summer had circulated, saying that the club will try to do that while he is still a valuable trade chip and also to avoid losing him for nothing next year.

Rose averaged 16.4 points, 3.4 boards, and 4.7 assists in the recent season. He played and started in 66 games, having 31.8 minutes of playing time per night.

The report also noted that both Hornacek and Knicks general manager Steve Mills are adamant in trying to improve their point guard options this summer as the team is also rumored to be targeting Memphis' Mike Conley and Sacramento's Rajon Rondo as they are also trying to bring back former sensation Jeremy Lin in free-agency.
