The National Football League's (NFL) New England Patriots recently lost their first game of the season to the Miami Dolphins.

Early in the game, Dolphins rookie linebacker Chris McCain blocked a punt from the Patriots. This set up a pass from quarterback Ryan Tannehill to Lamar Miller. This is the first time since 1992 that the Dolphins opened the season with a pass touchdown.

Dolphins took the early lead from the Patriots, 7-0.

However, later in the half, the Dolphins would turn the ball over three straight times, resulting in the Patriots establishing a 10-point lead at the end of the first half, 20-10.

While the Patriots have won 16 of their last 17 games, and their quarterback Tom Brady is a formidable one, critics expected them to win with their double digit halftime lead.

The Dolphins though, would rally back, and leave the Patriots scoreless until the end of the game.

Caleb Sturgis would make a couple of field goals in the third quarter, while Mike Wallace receives a 14-yard touchdown pass.

Knowshon Moreno contributed a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth, while Sturgis would add one more field goal, ending the game at 33-20.

Brady had completed only 29 passes out of 56 attempts. He threw only a total of 249 yards and one touchdown in their opening game.

The Patriots blamed their loss on a lack of execution.

It could arguably also have been the defense of the Dolphins, clocking a total of four sacks and 23 yards lost.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick seemed lost during their first game and treated it as a practice game. Throughout the game, Belichick used a total of 37 different defensive alignments and 31 offensive alignments within 60 minutes.
