Asus has announced that ZenFone Zoom and the ZenFone Selfie are now getting the Android Marshmallow update.

Back in February, the Taiwanese company promised that the Android 6.0 update would be released for both ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL) and Asus ZenFone Zoom (ZX551KL). Now, it has now started rolling out the update for the Asus ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL) and Asus ZenFone Zoom (ZX551KL).

Asus announced the update via its ZenTalk forum. Users need to download the firmware manually from the official website or wait for the OTA update to arrive. The ZenFone Zoom upgrades to firmware version 4.21.40.74 while the Zenfone Selfie is going up to 21.40.0.1692, according to Android Police.

Aside from upgrading to Android Marshmallow, the company will add new features including Google Calendar, Google Messenger, and Motion Gesture. Its Camera app would also receive a new Pano Sphere mode.

However, the upgrade will lead to the loss of a couple of Asus apps like the Asus Backup, Play Books, Play Games, Play Newsstand, Google+ and the ZenFlash app. It is worth noting that both smartphones are treated a bit differently with the Android 6.0 update.

After upgrading the ZenFone Zoom, it will receive preloaded apps like Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. Meanwhile, the Asus Email, Asus Calendar, Asus Messaging, Asus Browser and Asus Music would be removed.

The Zenfone Selfie would lose the Asus Backup, Mirror, Remote Link, Party Link, PC Link, Photo Frame, What’s Next, MyFrame, MyWater, Omlet chat, Data Transfer, and Snap View. Some apps for users in Taiwan would also be erased like the EZ, Dr.Eye, and Yahoo after the update.

Asus mentioned that Android Marshmallow does not support the transfer of apps to microSD, Android Headlines reported. Users need to move their apps to internal storage before they update their Zenphone devices.

The Android Marshmallow brings new features including Google Now on Tap, Doze mode for improved battery life, user interface tweaks, as well as overall performance and stability tweaks.
