Basketball News: Former New Mexico State Aggies Player Wendell McKines to Play for Hualan in the Chinese NBL

Chinese National Basketball League team Hualan has reportedly added the former New Mexico State University hotshot Wendell McKines to its roster for the remainder of the 2016 season of the professional minor league, Asia-Basket reported.

The 28-year-old native of Oakland, California last played for the Venezuelan professional basketball team of Cocodrilos de Caracas of the Liga Profesional de Baloncesto (LPB). McKines played 23 official games with the Venezuelan side and averaged 23.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

He helped Cocodrilos to a successful campaign in the 2015-16 season of the LPB as they won the league championship title. McKines was named Venezuelan LPB Finals MVP during his stint with the club.

The 6-foot-6 tall American power forward will be playing for the first time in China.  McKines has played previously in France (SPO Rouen and Le Portel), Israel (Ironi Ashkelon), Philippines (Alaska Aces and Rain or Shine), South Korea (Anyang KGC) and Argentina (Estudiantes Concordia).

McKines, who played college basketball for the New Mexico State Aggies, was named the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the New Mexico State to their second conference tournament title in three years and 19th NCAA Tournament berth. He also won the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Six team and U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District VIII team awards.

According to Realgm, during his freshman year with the Aggies, McKines appeared in 35 official matches and averaged 6.4 points and 5.9 boards per game with a 57.3 shooting percentage from the field. His stats significantly improved in his second year with the collegiate team as he averaged 12.12 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest in the 32 games he played in the 2008-09 season.

In his final year with the varsity, McKines averaged 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in 33.7 minutes on the field in the 35 games he played. Hualan currently has a record of 12 wins and eight losses.
