The well-known French orthopedic surgeon Olivier Bringer has said that a three-hour-long surgery on the fractured leg of the 2015 Chinese FA Cup Most Valuable Player Demba Ba was a success.

According to Shanghai Daily, the 31-year-old Ba went under surgery at Putuo District People's Hospital on Friday to treat a potentially career-ending injury.

The Shanghai Greenland Shenhua Senegalese striker was anesthetized at 9:40 a.m. on Friday. The surgery began at 10:40 a.m. and was finished at 1:55 p.m. in the afternoon.

According to Wu Xiaohui, the general manager of Shenhua, the French orthopedic specialist did the stitches on the wound himself.

"Bringer was stitching carefully. He told me before the surgery that he would make it one of his most perfect operations," the executive said.

According to Mai Online, Bringer arrived in Shanghai on Thursday and straightaway went to the hospital where the former Newcastle striker was confined. The French specialist declared that he was confident that Ba would return on playing competitive football.

"I'm sure he will be able to recover and play football again," said Bringer."In a few months, he will have the possibility of making a comeback. He is a tough guy and I'm sure he will be able to get over this."

An estimated 100 Greenland Shenhua supporters showed up at the hospital on Friday to show their support for Ba, who was the 2015 Chinese FA Cup Top Scorer.

Doctors have said that the Senegal striker will be staying in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for three days for medical observation.

He will then spend another week in the hospital's VIP ward before his family decides whether to move Ba to a medical center in Qatar for recovery.

Ba broke his leg in a Chinese Super League match against the Shanghai SIPG during the second half of a football game at Hongkou Football Stadium last week Sunday.
