Xiaomi has launched its first smartphone-powered virtual reality device called the Mi VR Play. The Xiaomi Mi VR Play is currently selling for only 1 RMB ($0.15) for beta testers. The company has not mentioned how many participants can join the beta program. After it announced the program on August 1, Xiaomi announced that over 1 million people have already registered for the beta testing. It is still unclear how much the Mi VR Play would cost and when it will be available to the public.

The Xiaomi Mi VR Play appears to be a standard VR device, but it features a secure place for smartphones with anti-slip strips and a zipper. It is made of Spandex, Lycra which is very elastic and durable. It also comes in a selection of bold prints and colors. The Play is lightweight and ultra-comfortable with a textured metal button and anti-reflective, optical-grade aspheric lens which provides maximum clarity. It comes with a Mi VR app for more video resources and content in China and offers a panoramic 2D and 3D Chinese library.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are quickly gaining attention in the tech industry. A good example of AR is the popular Pokemon Go, a mobile game that stimulates artificial objects in a user's real environment. VR, on the other hand, creates an artificial 3D environment where the user is immersed and able to move using a head-mounted screen.
