Apple has officially entered the wearable race. The company unveiled its long awaited fitness tracker on Tuesday, and it's called the Apple Watch.

The voice-activated device is a square faced smartwatch coming in two different sizes, three different models and dozens of different bands.

All models feature what Apple calls the digital crown, the small knob on the side of the device. Think of it as the home button on the iPhones. The digital crown can be rotated to scroll and zoom while navigating the watch's interface without hindering the view of the screen.

The glass of the watch is made out of a scratchproof material called sapphire crystal. Considering sapphire is the material that's usually used in other high-end watch products, it makes sense for Apple to use it for theirs as well.

On the backside of the watch is a set of four rings with a multitude of sensors that the watch is using to track the user's activity. The sensors on the back are a variety of infrared, visible light, and LEDs, all working with each other in an effort to identify the user's heart rate.

The watch also has a built in gyroscope and Taptic Engine, which helps the device recognize whether the user is tapping or pressing the display - reducing the need for more buttons or input points.

Charging the watch is super easy thanks to a MagSafe wireless charger that magnetically snaps on the back of the device. However, there was no official word yet on the device's battery life.

Apple will be encouraging a more healthy and active lifestyle, as they'll be implanting a variety of fitness and workout apps that collects the user's biometric data.

"It's a comprehensive health and fitness device," Apple CEO Tim Cook said. "But it's also an extremely precise and customizable timepiece"

The price for the Apple Watch varies depending on which of the three models you choose, but will be starting at US$349 once it's officially available in early 2015.
