After a crushing opening round loss to mighty Brazil, the Steel Roses defeated South Africa, 2-0, in the second round before drawing with the Swedes in the third to qualify in the last eight of the competitions.

China team captain Li Dongna had expressed her desire to move past the quarters despite the odds being stacked on the German side.

"We've came this far. We want to win no matter how strong our opponent is. We don't have much advantage over Germany, but anything could happen," Li said.

Meanwhile, Germany lost to Canada, 0-1, in their own final group stage match held also at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in the Brazilian capital on Tuesday, as per CBC Olympics.

It was the first time in 13 matches that the women Die Nationalelf lost to a Canadian squad, which had caused much delight to CONCACAF side.

Head coach Silvia Neid's squad had settled for second place in Group F as Canada took the top spot with both teams entering the knockout round.

Germany is favored to win this quarterfinal match against China, but head coach Bruno Bini's side has found a chemistry among the players and coaches that they have a slight chance to upset the FIFA world no. 2.

The predicted result is a 1-0 upset for China.
