Two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan overcame Vladimir Malkov of Russia with an impressive 2-0 victory at the ongoing badminton competition at the Barra Olympic Park Riocentro - Pavillion 4 on Friday in Rio.

Lin, who is seeking to win his third Olympic gold medal for the men's singles event, had trouble registering his second win at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The Chinese badminton ace faced a little snag in completing his 21-18, 21-7 triumph over the 2009 Russian National Championships winner.

"Malkov was tougher, and light-hearted, and he did create a lot of trouble in the first game," Lin admitted.

Malkov is the currently the world No. 61 in the latest BWF world rankings. The 30-year-old right-handed Russian has a career record of 227 wins and 160 losses.

According to Business Standard, Lin tried to enforce his dominance in the first game of the match. However, Malkov could found ways to retaliate and level the score.

The two professional badminton players were tied at 9-all, then 14-14 and 18-18, before Lin took the opening game with 21-18.

Lin later made adjustments and found the antidote to the Malkov's powerful smashes. He won the second game with ease 21-7 in just 15 minutes to seal his second triumph in his quest for his record-setting third Olympic gold.

Lin will be playing the world No. 33 Nguyen Tien Minh, who defeated David Obernosterer of Austria 21-18, 21-14.

"The difficulty on the court could make my heart beating faster, which is good. It will help me to prepare for the last group match against Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh the day after tomorrow," Lin said.
