"We are full of confidence," Kong said. "And my players are so eager for it that they'd rather to play the final this afternoon than tomorrow evening."

According to Xinhua, the two-time team champions will take on Germany in the championship round on Tuesday. The Germans surprisingly upset Japan with a 3-2 victory on Sunday.

China, which has two active Grand Slam winners in its team, will have the edge when they meet Germany in the finals. Singles Olympic champions 28-year-old Li Xiaoxia and the 26-year-old Ding Ning will be playing for China.

China also has the current world No. 1 Liu Shiwen. The 25-year-old right-handed native of Liaoning is a two-time World Table Tennis Championships singles event silver medalist, and she is seeking to win her first Olympic gold medal.

"The three of us together are very strong, while breaking through one of us is possible, breaking through us three will be very difficult. So winning three out of five games against us will not be easy," Li Xiaoxia said.

According to Eurosport, China will be gunning to extend its domination of the event. The Chinese paddlers have been ruling table tennis since its introduction to the Olympics in the year 2008 in Beijing, China.
