China's national Paralympics team arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday for the upcoming 15th Summer Paralympic Games.

A total of 308 disabled athletes from China would be competing in Brazil between September 7 and 18. This is the largest-ever Paralympics delegation the country has sent. Among them are 161 men and 147 women, who will participate in 328 medal events covering 17 different sports,  according to China Daily.

Alongside the competing Chinese athletes will be 177 coaches and support staff, as well as 14 assistants to help those who have severe physical disabilities. In all, China has sent a 499-strong delegation to the major international sporting event.

The Chinese Paralympic contingent was divided into three groups to fly to Rio. The third and last group, which is around 360 people, arrived in Rio on Wednesday. Around one-third of the athletes in the third group use wheelchair, adding difficulty to the 25-hour flight.

"After long-time flight, I feel a bit tired. But I'm still excited for my fourth Paralympics. I will spare no effort for good results," China's paralympic swimmer Xu Qing, who will be competing in his fourth Paralympics, said.

Xu, 23, is a seven-time Paralympics swimming gold medalist and holds the S6 World records in 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly events. He is also a part of the 2008 Chinese swimming relay team that holds the 4 x 50-meter medley 20pts World Record.

According to China.org, in the past three Summer Paralympic Games, China has dominated and topped the medal table.

At the London Paralympics four years ago, China won a total of 231 medals - 95 of it were gold.
