European leaders are reportedly asking more support for Ukraine as the crisis between the country and Russia is still ongoing and that they have been struggling to sign a peace plan in order to end the war between the pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainians.

According to reports, there was also a bipartisan call towards the United States Congress to arm Ukraine as the military aid from the country is already past due.

Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona and the head of the Senate Armed Services Committee echoed these sentiments last Thursday as he said that the U.S. cannot just stand by and let the Ukrainians be slaughtered by superior weapons.

Aside from McCain, Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire said that it is time to give Ukraine the ability to defend itself from the Russians and the separatists.

United States Secretary of State John Kerry met with top Ukrainian officials last Thursday in Kiev to talk about U.S. militray aid. Kerry said Obama and his top officials are still weighing the possibilities of providing defensive systems to the country.

"We are not interested in a proxy war. Our objective is to change Russia's behavior," said Kerry.

Obama's spokesman also released a statement saying the U.S. President is still taking into consideration the different views of countries that are allies to the U.S. and that he will soon make the decision despite the talks as he will base it on what he believes is best for his country.

The recent talks reportedly came due to the war in eastern Ukraine threatening the general security of Europe. The war between the separatists and the Ukrainian forces erupted again in January, bringing the death toll to 5,300 people since the conflict began last year in April.

Russia has been denying their support for the separatists since the start of the war but it has been sanctioned by the international community because of its actions. According to U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove, Russia still supplies the separatists with heavy weaponries, fighters, and air support.
