The teenager, Thomas "T.J." Lane killed three students at Chardon High School. The 19-year-old killer, who committed the crimes in 2012, escaped from the confines of Allen Correctional Facility in Lima, Ohio. Lima Police Sgt. Andy Green disclosed to NBC News that the inmate fled the facility roughly before 8:00 in the evening. The other inmate who escaped with Lane is 45-year-old Clifford Opperud. Prison records state that Opperud was convicted for burglary, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping.

According to Green, three inmates initially planned for the escape. However, one was captured a short time after the discovery of their getaway. An active manhunt has been launched by the Allen County Sheriff's Office, Lima Police, and Ohio State Highway Patrol. All agencies have also mobilized their tactical teams for the immediate recapture of the inmates.

No additional information was provided by the authorities. However, Lima police are issuing warnings to the residents against picking up hitch hikers. In addition, the publics is warned not to welcome strangers in their homes. Police described the escaped inmates to be wearing "prison blues". Authorities are also notifying the public that Lane and Opperud are potentially armed and dangerous.

"We are going to consider them definitely dangerous. At this point, they've been out for two hours, they could be armed right now," Green disclosed.

On February 27, 2012, Lane brought a firearm to school. He then went to the cafeteria filled with numerous students and opened fire. Three victims were killed during Lane's rampage. In his court trial last year, the 19-year-old pleaded guilty to the crimes. The judge then sentenced him to life in prison. During the sentencing hearing, Lane strutted in the court room wearing a white T-shirt in which the word "KILLER" was written on its front.
