The People's Liberation Army (PLA), the armed forces of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has published its first Encyclopedia of Military Training of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, a comprehensive study of training regimes employed by the world's militaries, including the United States.

Compiled by the Shijiazhuang Army Command College (SACC), the encyclopedia is described by the PLA as an important work that promotes advanced military culture. It includes the latest theories and practices in the field of military training at all times and in all countries.

The PLA said the encyclopedia constitutes a scientific, standard, systematic and authoritative knowledge system for military training.

The encyclopedia also provides a professional reference book for the PLA's military operations, training, teaching and research. It fills the gap in enriching and developing the scientific research of military training.

The encyclopedia contains articles written by more than 300 experts from 24 PLA units covering every field of military training. Taking seven years to complete, the encyclopedia consists of some two million characters and 1100 pictures.

The encyclopedia focuses on military theory innovation, which will play an important role in pushing forward the actual-combat military training under the new situation facing the PLA.

That situation is being shaped by a probable war with the United States, which enjoys a tactical and strategic edge in the naval and air power that will dominate any conflict over the South China Sea. The PLA Ground Force will have a minor role to play in this upcoming conflict.

A hindrance to professionalizing the PLA and conducting training in tune with existing realities is the widespread and endemic corruption prevailing in the armed forces.

Senior Chinese military officials yesterday called for stronger determination to build a "clean army."

Fan Changlong and Xu Qiliang, vice chairmen of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks at a meeting planning out the work on rooting out the negative influence of the corruption cases of former CMC vice chairmen Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou.

The PLA said it's been a serious and urgent task to eliminate the influence of Guo and Xu in the military. Fan said any effort to build a strong army should be done in accordance with the requirements and the time schedule put forward by the CMC.

Xu Qiliang urged the military to stay clear-minded and remain determined to erase the bad influence of Guo and Xu Caihou and fighting against corruption in the army.
