Google Signs Deal with CBS for Online TV Service?

Tech giant Google reportedly scored a major deal with CBS Corporation recently. The deal involves allowing Google to include CBS into the former's plan of establishing a web TV service.

Accordingly, Google is already in the final phase of its negotiations with Walt Disney, 21st Century Fox and Viacom to distribute their channels on the search giant's proposed platform. The service will be part of Google's YouTube platform.

Anticipated to be launched by first quarter of 2017, rumors have nts that CBS will be contributing will be live NFL games, according to sources who have insider knowledge of the deal.

Reports further claimed that Google is planning to offer what is known as a "skinny bundle," which includes fewer channels compared to traditional cable subscriptions. The bundle will cost somewhere between $30 and $40 per month.

It is still unclear, though, which between Fox and Viacom networks will be added into the service.

Meanwhile, several rumors have hinted that Google should be able to finalize this list within the coming months.

Google is not the first to foray into this market.

According to Reuters, Dish Network and Sony have both released the same kind of service in 2015. Their services were specifically tailored for the younger generation, who do not want to use or pay for traditional cable bundles.

On the other hand, AT&T and Hulu are also slated to launch their own streaming television services within the coming months.

Not to be left behind, traditional cable companies have started to introduce smaller packages as well to counter the growing demands of streaming services.
