The lawyer of the Massachusetts woman detained after authorities discovered three bodies of infants inside her home expressed his optimism on Sunday regarding the forensic testing conducted. He is hopeful that the results will indicate that the deceased infants were not born alive and that they were stillborn babies. If this happens, then his client could not be charged for either harming or killing the babies.

On Friday, Erika Murray was charged with fetal death concealment and other crimes as investigators discovered three bodies of infants inside her home. The responding officers described Murray's Blackstone residence as filthy and vermin-infested. To date, the cause of the demise of the three babies are still under investigation by a medical examiner. In addition, authorities have yet to determine whether the remains were newborn babies or fetuses.

"I ... am eager to see whether the forensic testing confirms that in fact the children that are deceased ... were never born alive," Murray's lawyer, Keith Halpern, stated. In addition, the lawyer anticipates that the DNA results will show that Murray and her longtime partner were the parents of the babies.

In an interview with The Boston Globe, Halpern shared that Murray have be suffering in fear of her life and her children's lives. She claimed to have given birth to two of her youngest kids in secret because her boyfriend no longer wanted more children after the first two were born. In an effort to protect her children from her boyfriend, Murray allegedly tricked him into thinking that the two younger kids are not hers and that she was only babysitting them.

"Try to imagine the kind of fear and sort of loss of control over your life that would lead a woman to give birth to a child alone on the floor of her bathroom. That's was she was going through," Halpern explained. "This terror just controlled her. She couldn't figure out how to get out of the prison she created for herself," he added.

The case of the Murray household first came into light two weeks ago. One of the family's neighbors alerted the authorities on the abysmal living condition of the children. Tim Connolly, a spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr., disclosed that Murray's 10-year-old son went to a neighbor's home and sought advice on how to stop a baby from crying. Concerned with the odd question of the child, the neighbor accompanied the boy to the house and discovered a crying six-month-old baby covered in feces. Upon checking the area, the neighbor found no adults supervising the children. The police and the state Department of Children and Families were then alerted. They took the Murray children, ages 13, 10, 3, and 6 months, from the house.

Subsequently, their mother was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment. The house was also condemned. Moreover, a search warrant was obtained based on the statements given by the 13- and 10-year-old children. A thorough search of the residence revealed the remains of three infants. One was found inside a closet on Wednesday while the two bodies were located on Thursday.
