The New Orleans Pelicans are rumored to be pursuing Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez to keep Anthony Davis happy amid a turbulent start to the 2016-2017 season.

New Orleans is still winless six games into the new season and franchise player Davis is reportedly "frustrated" about what is happening with the team.

"Definitely frustrating," Davis said after the Pelican's 117-113 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this month. "We can't get a win. It's frustrating."

Davis, the no. 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft, has been producing monster numbers this year, averaging 30.0 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.2 steals, and 3.2 blocks, but a lack of support from his teammates has left the Pelicans reeling at the moment.

"We had too many mental breakdowns," said Davis. "We're not talking out there and so, therefore, we have mental breakdowns that gave them easy layups at the basket and open shots."

There are rumors that the Pelicans could trade for Brooklyn's Lopez, who is also the subject of recent trade speculations as the Nets are reportedly planning a full rebuild, via Fansided.

Pairing Lopez with Davis will allow the latter to slide back to his natural position of power forward and will New Orleans the "ideal 1-2 punch" in their frontcourt.

Lopez can help relieve some of the scoring and defensive burden on Davis' shoulders. Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry could utilize both players simultaneously or one-at-a-time during game situations, ensuring a more stable play for the squad.

However, Bleacher Report noted that the Nets are not actively shopping Lopez but are only "listening to offers," which still gives the Pelicans an opportunity to make a deal for the big man.

One hindrance in acquiring Lopez is his massive salary of $21.2 million per year. Lopez is owed $21.1 million this season and $22.6 million in 2017-2018 as part of his three-year, $63.5 million contract signed in the summer of 2015 with the Nets.

New Orleans does not appear to have enough assets to give Brooklyn what they want in return at this point.
