Rumors are out that a Klay Thompson-Andrew Wiggins trade is possible as the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves do not meet each one's expectations in starting the new season.

The Warriors are expected to bulldoze their way right from the opening day of the 2016-2017 NBA season after the acquisition of Kevin Durant in the summer, forming a Big Four with Thompson, Draymond Green, and Stephen Curry, as per HNGN.

Instead, the team was held to an embarrassing 129-100 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in opening night and has also conceded a 117-97 defeat in the hands of the young Los Angeles Lakers squad last Friday.

Golden State currently has a 5-2 slate when they are expected to be at 7-0 and on top of the West at this point of the season.

One glaring weakness for the Warriors right now is the dismal play of Thompson, who has dramatically dropped his shooting percentages. From 47.0 and 42.5 percent last year to 41.2 and 20.8 percent after seven games this season, his current struggles are well-documented.

Meanwhile, the same can be also be said about Wiggins, who is reportedly "not performing his best lately," resulting in a 1-5 start for the Timberwolves.

Minnesota is projected to have a breakthrough year in 2016-2017 as Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Zach LaVine are all a year older. They were predicted to at least land the eighth spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season.

The Wolves has a starting unit filled with talented but unproven youngsters, especially after the injury of Ricky Rubio. Wiggins has Towns, LaVine, Gorgui Dieng, and rookie Kris Dunn as his fellow starters with Rubio out.

With the two team's inability to perform as expected, a Thompson-Wiggins swap was suggested by Chat Sports Net, saying that "both players will get a fresh new start" and will probably benefit their respective teams in the end.

Should the trade pushes through, Thompson will provide Minnesota the outside shooting firepower the team currently lacks. He will also be one of the main offensive options, if not the number one option, of Wolves head coach Tom Thibodeau's system, unlike at Golden State where he is the third or fourth one.

Wiggins will give the Warriors better balance in the offensive end and will make them better on defense with his long arms complementing those of Durant in the perimeter.

A Thompson-Wiggins trade is unlikely to happen, though, as both the Warriors and Wolves have a lot of plans for the futures of these two players.
