Sony Pictures recently announced that it will use the Nokia Ozo 360-degree camera in order to create contents for the virtual reality platform. Sony Pictures said that it will use both the hardware and software platforms of the Nokia Ozo.

Sony Pictures signed a partnership agreement with Nokia Ozo that will allow the former to capture, edit, create, and distribute contents for the virtual reality platform. Sony Pictures added that it will integrate the Ozo Play System Development Kit into the firm's Privilege Plus app for the Android platform.

In a statement acquired by Venture Beat, Nokia Technologies vice president of digital media Paul Melin said, "We're thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures and its talented storytellers to apply our technology and create experiences only possible with Ozo - like 3D 360 live VR broadcast."

Nokia will provide the necessary hardware equipment and virtual reality software in order to support Sony Pictures in its goal of creating highly immersive VR contents. On the other hand, Sony pictures will use the hardware and other products provided by Nokia Ozo live in order to create a streaming service that will allow fans to access live company events, according to Engadget.

Some tech analysts are puzzled as to why Sony, which has a long and diverse experience in the camera industry, would tap Nokia in its latest undertaking. It appears that Sony is trying to take advantage of the Live VR broadcasting feature of the Nokia Ozo. Moreover, Nokia's hardware supports 4K virtual reality output, as long as the user has a powerful PC or Mac system that can handle the processing requirements.
