India's prominent badminton player PV Sindhu successfully advanced to the semifinal stage of the ongoing BWF Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open on Friday after a hard-earned quarterfinal round victory over Xiaoyu Liang of Singapore at the Hong Kong Gymnasium in Kowloon.

The newly crowned China Open Indian champion withstood the gallant challenge rendered by the 20-year-old Singaporean shuttler, who is currently ranked No. 32 in the world. Sindhu scored a 21-17, 21-23, 21-18 three-game triumph and secured her ticket to the final four of the USD 400,000 World Superseries event.

Sindhu wrapped up the quarterfinals duel and claimed victory in one hour and 19 minutes on the court. With the victory, the incumbent world No. 9 registered her third successive win over Liang since the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games - Mixed Team Event.

Sindhu will be facing the winner between Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi and her fellow Indian female shuttler Saina Nehwal in the final four of the prestigious 6-star badminton event.

The 23-year-old Cheung entered the tournament as an unseeded player. The Hong Kong national defeated Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam in the first round and prevailed over Nitchaon Jindapol of Thailand in the second stage of the tournament.

The fifth-seeded Nehwal, on the other hand, disposed world No. 12 Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand in the opening round and eliminated the 14th ranked Sayaka Sato of Japan in the second round.

According to the Indian Express, Sindhu is hoping to have a string of another good week following her successful campaign in Fuzhou last week. A potential face-off with India's first badminton player to ever win an Olympic medal is an exciting matchup for the Indian fans, though the 21-year-old native of Hyderabad would want the run to finish with a second successive title.

Sindhu is gunning to continue her brilliant tournament performance in Fuzhou and her splendid campaign in the last Rio Games.
