A former senior level Foxconn manager was indicted by Taiwanese prosecutors on Dec. 2 on accusations of allegedly stealing and selling more than 5,700 iPhone units. Court documents reveal that the Foxconn manager sold the stolen iPhones in China, which cost around $1.56 million.

The Foxconn manager who goes by the name of Tsai ordered that thousands of iPhone units will be smuggled out of the company's handset testing facility. Foxconn is the biggest electronics assembler in the world, and the company is known for working with top tech companies like Apple and Sony, according to ZDnet.

The theft was eventually discovered following an internal Foxconn audit. Investigations eventually revealed that at least eight employees were involved or have helped in stealing the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s models. The Taipei district prosecutor's office said that the iPhones were sold between 2013 and 2014, and added that Tsai could face up to 10 years of jail time if found guilty of the crime.

This is not the first time that a Foxconn employee broke protocol and was charged with breach of trust. In 2015, public prosecutors charged five former Foxconn employees for allegedly receiving kicks back from certain Foxconn suppliers in exchange for clearing some quality checks and buying equipment, according to BGR. The employees were reported to have received more than $5 million in kickbacks. A Taipei court ruled out last month sentencing the employees up to 10 years and six months in prison. Foxconn has been criticized in the past for the company's low wage and poor working conditions.
