Chinese Basketball Association: Shanghai Sharks Outlast Shandong Golden Stars in Overtime; Jimmer Fredette Scores 47 Points

The top-ranked team of Shanghai Sharks continues their dominance in the league after a close 113-111 overtime win over the team of Shandong Golden Stars in the 15th round of the ongoing 22nd season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Friday night.

According to EuroBasket, American point guard Jimmer Fredette led the Yao Ming-owned basketball outfit with an impressive all-around game performance of game-highs 47 points and 17 rebounds to go along with four assists, one steal, and one blocked shot. The former Brigham Young University Cougars hotshot went 8-18 from the two-point range while connecting seven three-pointers in 52 minutes of playing time.

Frenchman Guerschon Yabusele and Chinese Ju Peng contributed with 18 and 14 points, respectively, for the Sharks, which remain on the peak of the league's team standings with a spectacular 14 wins and with just one loss since the new season started last October.

Former Indiana Pacers guard AJ Price paced Shandong with team-high 41 points, while fellow foreign reinforcement Jason Thompson had 18 markers and 11 boards. Local players Yanyuhang Ding and Ke Wu scored 18 and 12 points, respectively, for the losing side.

Basing from the match result in the website of NowGoal, the Sharks put up an early 22-9 run during the opening period of the game. However, the Golden Stars managed to regroup in the following quarter and staged a 36-22 run to cap the first half with a one-point advantage, 45-44.

In the third period, Fredette continued to lead his team to establish an eight-point lead, 75-67, but Shandong immediately retaliated with its own 8-0 attack to level the score to 75-75. The third quarter ended with both squads knotted at 77-all.

In the fourth quarter, both teams produced 25 points apiece with Golden Star's guard Ran Sui sending the game into overtime with his tip in shot during the dying seconds of the fourth quarter.

In the extension period, the Sharks were able to contain the opposing team to just nine points while pouring in 11 points to seal the victory.
