There are rumors that Zlatan Ibrahimović could decide to leave Manchester United next summer if the club fails to finish well in the current Premier League season.

Ibrahimović, who turned 35 in October, was acquired by United in a free transfer after his contract with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain had expired during the summer. He was signed to a one-year deal, which has an option of being extended to another one depending on his performance for the club.

His acquisition was followed by the signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and world record transfer signee Paul Pogba, which created huge expectations for the Red Devils to at least compete for the Premier League title this season.

However, the team has not met those expectations so far as they have struggled to find wins all season and are currently sixth in the English top-flight table with only 27 points after 16 rounds of competitions.

Ibrahimović has scored nine times in his first 15 appearances in the Premier League so far, making him the fourth-leading scorer in England's first division at the moment, tied with Everton's Romelu Lukaku.

Metro reported that United manager Jose Mourinho is "fearful" that Ibrahimović "could leave the club" at the end of the season as rumors have emerged that he is "not set on staying at the Theatre of Dreams next season and will evaluate his future at the end of the campaign".

According to the latest speculations, there are "big money offers on the table" for the Swede striker coming from the US' Major League Soccer and China's Chinese Super League.

Mourinho reportedly wants to keep Ibrahimović at the Old Trafford at all costs, but it is still up to the former Sweden captain where he wants to go next season.

Daily Mail Online indicated that Ibrahimović has been tirelessly working in the gym to keep in shape is aging body, who will turn 36 next year.

There had been concerns from supporters that Ibrahimović can no longer contribute to the team if he is not scoring, but those questions do not apply to him at the moment.

"I knew the character - because at his (Ibrahimović's) age I think it's character - the personality, the passion that plays, the quality is there," said Mourinho.

"You come to England if you want to be in the most difficult league in the world, if you want to prove yourself and show what you can do. So his decision to come was based on that, so I'm really happy because it's not just about goals. His goals, his leadership, his motivation, I'm really happy," Mourinho added.
