Electric car manufacturer Tesla is planning to roll out its third-generation Superchargers, which can supply electric cars with more power and significantly decrease charging time, to its public EV charging stations.

The current maximum power Tesla's Superchargers can output is 150kW per car, according to Engadget. Tesla is yet to officially confirm the power output of the third-generation Supercharger, but a recent tweet exchange from Tesla CEO and Electrek's Fred Lambert hinted that it will be more than 350kW.

While Tesla's range of electric cars are widely regarded by both critics and consumers, some of the flaws pointed out are its limited range and charging stations and the span of time needed to fully charge the cars, which significantly affects travel time.

Tesla responded to this by building more Superchargers along major highways and cities. However, the possibility of a more powerful Supercharger can have a substantial effect and can be a factor for choosing Tesla cars.

According to Elektrek, a Supercharger that can have an output of more than 350kW can cut down charging time of a 300-mile battery pack to a mere 15 minutes, maybe even less. Electric vehicles are more convenient compared with gas-powered cars as they can be charged overnight ensuring a fully packed battery the morning after. However, EVs face a major disadvantage when it comes to long road trips as gas-powered cars can be refueled and be back on the road in just a couple of minutes.
