The infamous Blue Screen of Death is receiving a major facelift. It was discovered by a handful of keen-eyed Windows users recently that the infamous crash screen is now colored green instead of blue. The new crash screen was spotted by some users in a leaked preview of the Windows 10 build 1997.

The update will not roll out until early next year so it was quite a surprise for some users to discover a major change. Microsoft senior program manager Matthijs Hoekstra confirmed the change through a Twitter post, according to The Verge. Hoekstra revealed that the green crash screen is specific to test builds released through Microsoft's Windows Insider program.

Windows Insider is a program where testers could test and check upcoming releases of Windows 10 builds in order to point out bugs and crashes. By introducing a new color specific only to preview builds, Microsoft should be able to easily distinguish problems between Windows 10 consumer builds and those found in early unstable builds, according to Engadget.

Microsoft has made a handful of changes and improvements to the blue crash screen this year. The tech giant added a QR code on the crash screen, which users can scan in order to help them troubleshoot a problem.

The recent leak also confirmed that aside from changing the crash screen color to green, Microsoft is also planning to add a night mode in display settings. Some of those who were able to get their hand on the leaked preview build also reported that a new "game mode" will be added to Windows.
