The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation of alleged rollaway incidents involving certain Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. The vehicles under investigation are the 2013 Jaguar XF and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque with model years from 2012 to 2014.

Reports claimed that for the NHTSA to produce a recall order, the issue at hand needs be investigated first. The agency received at least seven complaints from owners of the two mention vehicle models, saying that the vehicles exhibited "unintended motion" after they were put in Park mode and the driver is already out of the car. Four complaints stated that there have been injuries because of this incident, with one being pinned against a garage wall.

Experts said that owners should ensure that the vehicle's parking brakes are engaged first before exiting. This is to make sure that the vehicle is secured on its parking area and not rollaway.

However, if the NHTSA found enough evidence regarding the complaints, the agency will be issuing a recall order, provided that Jaguar Land Rover will not issue a voluntary recall order first. If found faulty, Jaguar Land Rover will be forced to call back as many as 39,000 vehicles, according to CarBuzz.

Initial reports suggested that the problem might be with the rotary gear selectors. Fiat Chrysler is currently the subject of a similar investigation from the NHTSA after the agency received reports about several crashes and injuries stemming from vehicles equipped with the company's rotary shift knob. Fiat Chrysler issued a recall order covering more than one million cars and SUVs before the current NHTSA investigation was launched, according to CNet.
