Apple reported it hit a new record in its first-day iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders with more than 4 million pre-orders within the first 24 hours.

Apple got more than 2 million pre-orders for the iPhone 5 within its first 24 hours two years ago and its first weekend sales reached over 5 million. In 2013, Apple offered two iPhones and sold 9 million iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C units in the first weekend.

Apple confirmed demand exceeded initial pre-order supply and a huge number of phones will reach customers on Sept. 19. Many pre-orders, however, are scheduled to arrive in October.

The company said additional iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available to walk-in customers this Sept. 19 at 8:00 in the morning local time at all Apple retail stores.

People are encouraged to be early or order online at the Apple Online Store to pick-up the unit or get an estimated delivery date. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 could be delivered within seven to 10 business days while the iPhone 6 Plus could be delivered in three to four weeks.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will reach the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Puerto Rico and the U.K. first.

Twenty more countries will receive the iPhone 6 starting Sept. 26, including Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Ireland, Finland, Italy, Isle of man, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Netherlands, Portugal, Norway, Qatar, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, Sweden, Spain, United Arab Emirates and Turkey.
