Veteran floor generals Jameer Nelson and Deron Williams have emerged as the Cleveland Cavaliers' primary options to back up Kyrie Irving at the point guard spot as the team prepares for their title defense in the upcoming postseason.

The Cavs are reportedly seeking for the ideal point guard that would not only play the role of Irving's main backup but could also start for the team when they need to rest the three-time NBA All-Star.

LeBron James had repeatedly insisted that they still need a point guard despite the acquisition of Kyle Korver in a trade with Atlanta earlier this month.

"We still got a couple more things we need to do. We got to get a point guard," said James two weeks ago. "Yeah, it's my last time saying it, we need a point guard."

At the moment, rookie Kay Felder is the team's only legitimate point guard in their roster aside from Irving.

With that, a lot of trade rumors have emerged linking the Cavs to different veterans and the latest names to be mentioned are those of the Denver Nuggets' Nelson and Dallas Mavericks' Williams.

Sports World News reported that the 34-year-old Nelson is currently being shopped around by the Nuggets. Speculations abound that the Cavs could get him in exchange for a couple of second round picks and cash considerations.

Aside from being an affordable option, Nelson is also quite skilled and experienced at the position, having gone to the NBA Finals with the Orlando Magic in 2009. He is still actually a quality point guard even at his age and will provide the Cavs a reliable second-stringer and part-time starter.

Nelson is seen as a great fit for Cleveland because of his three-point shooting and ability to execute pick-and-roll situations with ease, which has always been one of the strengths of the Cavs.

Meanwhile, Williams is said to be the Cavs' second option if a deal for Nelson is not reached. The three-time NBA All-Star is bigger and a better scorer and passer, but he is also costlier and more prone to injuries than Nelson.

Dallas is reportedly looking to undergo a full rebuild and Williams is a trade asset that the Mavs would like to deal soonest to maximize his value.

According to Inquisitr, Williams is a "massive scoring upgrade" for the Cavs' second unit and could perhaps be "their best weapon against a thin Warriors bench" if they meet again in the Finals.
