Rumors have emerged that New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony could be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers before this season's trade deadline.

Anthony, 32, had long been adamant about his stance not to waive the no-trade clause in his current contract with the Knicks, insisting that he wants to stay, figure things out, and win with the club in the future.

However, the nine-time NBA All-Star may have changed his mind about staying in New York as he reportedly told Newsday's Al Iannazzone that he "would consider waiving his no-trade clause" if the club tells him that they want to move on and make a full rebuild, according to CBS Sports.

"I think it will be more on the front office," said Anthony. "I have the power, but still I would talk to them. We would be in communication if they feel like they want to go in a different direction, they want to start rebuilding for the future. If they tell me they want to scrap this whole thing, yeah, I have to consider it."

Team President Phil Jackson is reportedly not planning on a rebuild, though, as he is keen on keeping the team's core for the foreseeable future despite the never-ending struggles the Knicks have had with Anthony. There are speculations that the former NBA scoring champion will be dealt in or before the Feb. 23 deadline.

Fox Sports indicated that a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers or the Lakers is possible, but a trade with the first two clubs would be hard to accomplish.

It means that a trade with the Lakers has the highest probability to happen if indeed Jackson decides to trade Anthony and if the player opts to waive his no-trade clause.

A trade package centered on combo guard Jordan Clarkson is said to be the most probable option for the Hollywood squad, although it is not known whether Jackson and the Knicks would approve such a deal.
